Vale – Jim Burstal

IMG_1413It is with sadness that Hume Camellia Society reports the death of Jim Burstal.

Jim was a dedicated camellia grower which was proved with success in exhibiting at Narrandera, Young, Albury and Canberra Shows and winning many championships and a national award. As Jim’s health declined he was ably assisted by his daughter-in-law Vicki and Jim’s camellias won Grand Champion, Reserve Champion and Champion Miniature in Canberra this year.

In 2000 Jim and his wife Margaret began running the present Camellia Show at Young.

Sadly Margaret died in 2010, however Jim has trained up a team of volunteers from the Young Uniting Church to help running this successful show. The Show has grown in the number of blooms being exhibited from 400 in the early days and in recent years to over 1000.

Jim will be greatly missed by the members of Hume and by those Camellia Australia members who have exhibited along with Jim in the various shows.
